Questions from Parents

Do I need any coding experience?

None at all. GDevelop uses a visual event system you drag conditions and actions into an event sheet, like building with Lego. There's nothing to type or spell correctly. Each workshop is written for a grown-up and child reading together.

What age is it suitable for?

Episode 1 works well from age 8 with a parent. Later episodes involve more events and logic and suit ages 9-10+ better. Confident readers can do more independently from around age 10.

Do I need to download anything?

Yes GDevelop is a free desktop app. Download it from gdevelop.io. It works on Windows, Mac and Linux. It's completely free with no watermarks on your games.

Do I need a GDevelop account?

You can build without an account, but a free GDevelop account lets you save projects to the cloud and publish games online so friends and family can play.

Do I need to do episodes in order?

No each episode stands alone. But if it's your first time with GDevelop, Episode 1 (Pong) is the gentlest start and introduces all the core concepts.

Is it really free?

Yes all 6 episodes, forever. No ads, no paywall, no sign-up required. GDevelop itself is also completely free and open source.

Build it right here: write the code in each step and the canvas builds the game as you go, so you can play every step along the way.

🦊

Lumo says: each step adds one feature to the same game. Type a little, click Apply to Canvas, and play it straight away. You can make it your own at any time.
