Walking everywhere gets slow, and the surface is full of trouble. Tunnels fix both at once. You will dig clean paths under the world, keep them safe and light them, so travel feels quick and easy.

  • 1A tunnel is a path you dig through the ground. It lets you move from one place to another without climbing over every hill.
  • 2Most surface enemies cannot reach you the same way underground, so a tunnel can be a safer route.
  • 3A tunnel also links your base to far away places, so you spend less time walking and more time building.
  • 4Ember's tip: plan a tunnel like a road. Where does it start, where does it end, and what is in the way?

Dig a clean tunnel by removing tiles in TEdit.

  • 1In TEdit, every square is a tile. To dig, you change solid tiles into empty space.
  • 2Pick a starting point and a direction. Dig in a straight line so the tunnel is easy to walk.
  • 3One tile high makes a quick crawl, three tiles high feels roomy and easy to move in.
  • 4Work in small stretches and save often. A long tunnel is just lots of short ones joined together.

  • 4This is the same idea from Episode 2: a wall turns empty space into a safe room.

  • 1A tall empty tunnel is hard to climb, so add help to move through it.
  • 2Ropes let you climb straight up or down through a vertical shaft.

  • 4Pick what fits: ropes for up and down, platforms for steps, rails for long trips.

Dig at safe depths and watch out for hazards.

  • 1As you dig deeper, the world gets more dangerous. Stay aware of how far down you are.
  • 2If you break into a pocket of water, it can flood your tunnel in seconds.
  • 3Lava is even worse. One wrong tile can pour lava straight onto your path.
  • 4Dig slowly near caves and keep a way out. If you spot water or lava, stop and block the gap first.
