Choose a plot and plan it before you place any blocks.

  • 1Pick a flat patch of ground for your build, near your spawn so it is easy to reach.
  • 2Decide what you are making: a house, a shop, a tower, a treehouse.
  • 3Sketch the size. How many tiles wide, and how many tiles tall?
  • 4Clear and flatten the ground first, so your walls can sit level.

Build the shell of your build out of blocks.

  • 1Place blocks for the outer walls, floor to ceiling, on both sides.
  • 2Add a floor and a ceiling so the shape is closed on all sides.
  • 3Add a roof: flat, or sloped with a triangle of blocks at each end.
  • 4Fill the inside with background walls, so it counts as a room and stays safe.

Platforms and Doors

  • 1A door lets you walk in and out. Place it in a gap in a wall.
  • 2Platforms let you move up and down without a ladder. You can stand on them.
  • 3You can pass through a platform, so they are great for stairs and upper floors.
  • 4Add a door on the ground floor and platforms for any level above it.

Light the room and add furniture, so it feels lived in.

  • 1A room with no light is dark, and enemies can still spawn in unlit corners.
  • 2Place torches on the walls and ceiling, so the whole room is lit.
  • 3Add furniture like a table, a chair and a bed to make it feel lived in.
  • 4A bed lets you set your spawn, so you come back here when you respawn.

  • 1Walk around your build and look for bare or empty spots.
  • 2Add small details: windows, a fence, a lantern, a potted plant.
  • 3Mix block types, so it is not one flat colour. A wood frame and a stone base read well.
  • 4Step back, look again, and change one thing you do not like. That is the detail pass.
