Unity Studio
Pick a game, build it the Unity way with GameObjects and Components, play it right here, then take it into Unity for real. Everything you make downloads as real C# scripts plus a scene builder, so your game runs in the actual engine.
Companion to the My First Unity Game series. Nothing to install here, it works on a school computer.
Set up the scene
Tip: paint the ground first, place the player and goal, then add the fun parts in between. You can also drag a tile from the palette onto the scene, or drag a coin, enemy or player that is already placed to move it. Keyboard: pick a tile with Tab and Enter, then use arrow keys on the scene and Enter to drop.
GameObject
An empty shell that does nothing on its own.
Component
A part you snap on that gives the object behaviour: a sprite, a collider, physics, or your own script.
Inspector
The panel where you set the values. These change how the game plays here and in Unity.
Play your game
Nothing happening? Go back to Objects and Components and change a value, then press reset.
Take it into Unity
This bundles the real C# scripts for this game plus a README. In Unity you make a 2D project, copy in the scripts, add one empty GameObject with the build script, and your game runs for real.
Code it live
This is the real C# the studio exports. Change a number, press Apply, and the game updates here and in the download. A typo can never break the page, only numbers flow into the preview.
How to open it in Unity
- Install Unity Hub and a free LTS editor (Unity Personal licence).
- New Project, pick the 2D (Built-In) template.
- Unzip the download and copy the
Assets/Scriptsfolder into your project. - Follow the README: for most games, create an empty GameObject, add the build script, and press Play.
