Minecraft World Workshop
Build Your Own Datapack

Start with a crafting recipe you design yourself, then grow it into a full datapack: functions, loot tables, tags and advancements. No mod loader, no install and no admin rights, so you can build it anywhere and drop it into any world.

No install needed: every episode here builds a datapack, which is just a folder of text files. That means no mod loader, no admin rights and no powerful PC, so it works at home and on a school computer. You do need Minecraft Java Edition to test in-game, but you can start in the browser Studio right now.

Ember says: we build in small steps, and each one ends with something you can actually see in the game. A datapack is the friendliest mod of all: it is just a folder of text files, and Minecraft reads it for you.
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Open the Minecraft Mod Studio A browser playground for this series: lay out a crafting recipe on a 3x3 bench, add a function of commands, fill in pack.mcmeta and your recipe file, debug a broken datapack log, then download a real datapack zip. No install, works on a school computer. Start building โ†’
โฑ๏ธ Your first 15 minutes (no install)
  1. Open the Mod Studio.
  2. On the Crafting bench, put two diamonds above one stick to make a sword shape.
  3. On the Your files tab, give your datapack a name and pick your Minecraft version.
  4. On the Download your datapack tab, download the zip. That is a real datapack.

Drop the unzipped folder into saves/<your world>/datapacks/ and type /reload in-game. Your recipe shows up at any crafting table.

Go further with mods: datapacks are the no-install way. When you want new blocks, items, tools and mobs of your own, the Fabric mod series takes the next step (it needs a free Java install and a grown-up).
